OUR MISSION
To ensure that your home, cottage or business be a safe environment free
of infestation and materials that may be potentially hazardous to you or
your family's health.
WHAT WE DO
Our professionally trained staff will come to your home or business and
perform a thorough inspection of the building. We will fully explain all
the procedures that would be required to humanely remove the entire bat
colony and “bat proof” your building.
We will take pictures or video of the conditions in your attic, present
them for your viewing and explain how our safe removal of the guano
could be performed. We'll explain how we disinfect, sanitize and deodorize
the entire attic space plus remove and replace soiled insulation. If required,
our vaccum system can remove all the insulation in your attic and
we can replace it with an insecticide treated blown cellulose product to the
current building code R Value. You will then receive a written, no obligation quote, free of charge.

THE BENEFITS OF BATS
Bats make good neighbors. As the only major predators of night flying
insects, bats play an important role in controlling many insects. A
single bat can consume as many as 500 insects in just one hour or nearly
3,000 insects every night. A colony of just 100 “Little Brown Bats”, the
most abundant species in cottage country, may consume more than a
quarter of a million mosquitoes and other small insects each night. You
benefit from them residing on your property, you just don’t want them
living in your attic.
At AFTER-BATS we know of the value of the Little Brown Bat in providing
an ecological control of mosquito populations on your property and
reducing the risk of West Nile Virus to you and your family. Our service
includes (to customers who wish to have a Bat population reside on their
property) a Free Bat House to provide you with the continued benefits of a
local Bat population.
*** Please note that it is illegal to poison or
kill bats in Ontario ***

WHY REMOVE THE BATS?
Anyone who has bats living or roosting in their building is likely very
familiar with the unpleasant experience of encountering the unwanted
guests and/or the associated noise and odour problems that may accompany
a bat infestation.
What many people may not be aware of is that there are also significant
potential health risks associated with human exposure to bats that may
result from sharing a dwelling or work place. The two primary diseases
of concern are Bat Rabies and Histoplasmosis, which is caused by a
fungus that grows in the bat guano (droppings). Bat infestation may also
lead to a Bat Bug infestation in buildings. Bat Bugs have often been
mistaken for Bed Bugs as they look very similar.

Bat Rabies
Rabies is a deadly virus able to infect all mammals including Humans.
Most of us associate rabies with the mad dog frothing at the mouth,
eager to bite anything near it. In Ontario however, rabies usually
appears in wild animals. Skunks, Foxes and especially Bats are the most
commonly identified rabid animals. It's important to know how to protect
yourself and your pet from this deadly disease. As with all wildlife,
the most effective method of avoiding exposure is through avoidance
which, in the case of bats, is accomplished through removal of the bat
colony along with proper bat proofing of the building. This is just one
of the valuable services AFTER-BATS performs.
Histoplasmosis
A certain percentage of bat populations are infected with a virus called
Capsulatum Cistoplasme and can consequently excrete the organism in
their droppings. As a result of this, accumulations of bat guano
(droppings), especially in interior spaces, may pose significant health
risks to individuals exposed to airborne particles. Anyone exposed to
contaminated material such as bat droppings or insulation contaminated
by bat droppings, can develop Histoplasmosis. Histoplasmosis is an
infectious disease caused by inhaling the spores of the fungus. The
symptoms of histoplasmosis vary in severity from flu-like symptoms, to
chronic lung disease, to blindness and even death in rare cases.
Bat Bugs
Bat bugs may be found in houses and buildings that are infested with
bats. The bat bug is a very close relative to the bed bug. The two
species look so much alike that microscopic examination is needed to
confidently tell them apart.
Bat bugs feed on blood from bats, but when they migrate away from the
bat roost area, they will feed on other warm-blooded animals, including
people. This feeding is an annoyance but is not dangerous. According to
medical authorities bat bugs are not known to transmit any diseases.
Controlling bat bugs requires the elimination of any bats that are
present in the home or building. In addition to eliminating the bats you
may need to control the bugs themselves.

We also offer a complete range of Pest Control Services
performed by Ontario government licensed and insured exterminators if
required.
